About this policy
This policy explains how Instrument Labs collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you visit the website, create an account, use a Lab, save a project, publish to the Community Jam Repo, or contact us.
Information you provide
Depending on the features you use, we may collect:
- Your email address, account name, and authentication information.
- Projects and settings you choose to save to cloud storage.
- Your challenge selections, answers, hints, completion, and learning preferences when challenge syncing is enabled for your account.
- Project titles, descriptions, author names, and musical content you publish to the Community Jam Repo.
- Your email address, message, and related details when you contact support.
Jam Repo projects and their displayed author names are public. Private cloud projects are not published unless you intentionally send a copy to the Repo.
Technical and usage information
The service and its infrastructure may process technical information such as IP address, browser and device type, requested pages, timestamps, security events, and diagnostic logs. We use this information to operate, protect, troubleshoot, and improve Instrument Labs.
Analytics
Instrument Labs uses PostHog to understand page visits and selected feature usage, such as account activity and Community Jam Repo actions. Signed-in activity may be associated with an internal account identifier. We do not intentionally send PostHog your email address, account name, password, contact-form contents, project titles or descriptions, melodies, or chord progressions. We may send limited musical and usage metadata, such as the instrument, Lab, tempo, key, mode, genre, and chord count. Automatic click and form capture, session recordings, and automatic browser exception capture are disabled in our website configuration.
Cookies and browser storage
Instrument Labs uses browser storage and similar technologies when necessary for authentication, security, saved preferences, core application features, and analytics. We will provide additional notice, consent, or opt-out controls where required by applicable law.
How we use information
We use collected information to:
- Provide accounts, authentication, synchronized challenge progress, cloud projects, and Community Jam Repo features.
- Respond to support requests and service messages.
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and enforce service limits.
- Diagnose problems and improve the design and performance of the Labs.
- Comply with applicable law and protect the rights of users and Instrument Labs.
Service providers and disclosure
We use service providers to operate Instrument Labs. These currently include Supabase for accounts and data storage, Resend for contact-form email delivery, Cloudflare Turnstile for abuse prevention, and PostHog for product analytics. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services to us and under their own applicable terms and privacy commitments.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to investigate abuse or security incidents, or to protect users, Instrument Labs, and others. We do not sell personal information for money.
Retention and security
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain security and business records, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. Public Repo snapshots are removed when their owners unpublish them, subject to limited backups and records required for security or legal purposes. We use reasonable safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You can update your account name and manage or remove your cloud and Repo projects through the service. You may reset individual challenges in the challenge interface. You may also contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, including synchronized challenge progress, associated with your account. Some information may be retained where legally permitted or required.
Children
Instrument Labs is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can review and address it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Instrument Labs and its service providers change. The effective date above will be revised when material updates are published.
